Amateur video producer captures aftermath of car crash that killed at least two at South by Southwest Festival AUSTIN, TEXAS, UNITED STATES (MARCH 13, 2014) (SOCRATES VILLARREAL) - At least two people were killed and dozens more were injured early Thursday morning (March 13) when a car crashed through a crowd in Austin, Texas during the South By Southwest festival.
A man and a woman are listed as the dead with Austin police officials telling local media that 23 other people have been injured. Five of them critically. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. local time. About five - ten minutes after the accident a local videographer was able to record the aftermath. The video shows the wounded still in the street as people gather to help them. "And all of a sudden this car came like driving through hit like ten people," said one festival attendee. "He just took off, hit all these people right here. I think those people are dead honestly," said another unidentified festival attendee. Austin police said they believe the driver struck a cab before departing his vehicle to flee on foot. Officers were able to take him into custody after shocking him with a stun gun. Police say the man faces two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle. |
