USA-SOLDIER RETURNED - The American soldier suspected of massacring 16 Afghan civilians is being held at this U.S. military base.

38-year-old U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales has his own cell in maximum security at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

He's now awaiting charges.

Bales was identified on Friday as the soldier suspected of carrying out the killing spree.

Nine children and three women were among the dead following the massacre on the previous Sunday.
