Blackberry users across Europe, Middle East and Africa are left without internet services on their smartphones after a server crash. London customers are furious at the outage.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UK (OCTOBER 10, 2011) REUTERS - Millions of Blackberry users across Europe, Middle East and Africa were left without internet services on their smartphones on Monday (October 10), after a server crash.
It reportedly happened around 1000gmt.
The problem is believed to have happened in the English town of Slough, near London, where the affected services are based.
The company said it was working to fix the problem, but users were given no more information than that.
At London's Liverpool Street station, commuters were cross at being unable to use their smartphones.
"The only thing that's working is my text messages. So I pay 50 pounds (USD 78 dollars) a month for a phone that doesn't really work and can't do anything more than a normal phone," said one man.
A woman said she was now considering not renewing her contract with the company.
"It's really annoying and I don't know if I will upgrade for a new Blackberry," she said.
This major widespread outage will be a blow to Blackberry, which has been losing customers to rival smartphone companies, in particular Apple's Iphone.Subscribers were unable to use internet, email or Blackberry Messenger services.
