Blood, Chaos Sweep Through Egypt

R Reports - Unrest on the streets of Cairo -after Egyptian troops opened fire on demonstrators calling for Mohamed Mursi to be reinstated.

Over 150 people were killed in the clashes --- many of them shot in the head. The injured number around 1400 --- and the majority are being treated at makeshift hospitals. Tear gas hung in the air and burning tires sent plumes of black smoke into the sky.

The U.S. also weighed in on the crackdown on Mursi supporters. White HouseSpokesman Josh Earnest.

 White House Spokesman Josh Earnest:

"The United States strongly condemns the use of violence against protesters inEgypt. We have repeatedly called on the Egyptian military and security forces to show restraint, and for the government to respect the universal rights of its citizens."

Hours after the clashes began, protesters were still blocking roads -- despite a curfew ordered by the military.

The government has declared a state of emergency which is expected to last a month. Rights activists said the move would give legal cover for the army to make arrests.
