FRANCE-EIFFEL TOWER - A bomb alert at the Eiffel Tower leads to a mass evacuation.

Parisian police evacuated more than 2,000 people from the Eiffel Tower and the park surrounding the Paris landmark immediately following reports of the bomb alert.

The evacuation from the tower began shortly before 9pm local time - and after the tower area was cordoned off - special units - including one with sniffer dogs searched the Eiffel Tower floor by floor.

No bomb was found - but as a precaution -- police closed the tower -- which has three floors open to visitors and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world.
