British Woman Found Dead On Houseboat In Kashmir, Dutch Tourist Held

A Dutch tourist is arrested after a British woman is found dead on a houseboat in India's Kashmir.

SRINAGAR, JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA (APRIL 06, 2013)  (ANI) - A Dutch tourist has been arrested after a British woman was found dead on a houseboat inIndia's Kashmir on Saturday (April 6).

The Dutch national was sharing a houseboat on the scenic Dal Lake with the British woman and was living in a room adjacent to the victim's room.

Kashmir police suspected that the 23-year-old woman might have been sexually assaulted before being killed.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Afadul Mujtaba said on Saturday (April 06) that Dutch tourist had escaped leaving behind all his belongings.

"The English lady had been living for quite sometime here, I think for about a month and the Dutch tourist has arrived here two days back. But we have found on spot is, that there are injuries caused to the lady and the cabin, which had been locked from inside has been broken and the Dutch tourist had escaped from this place leaving behind all his belongings," said Mujtaba.

Reportedly, the woman was found in a pool of blood inside her room in the houseboat.

Mujtaba also said that the police apprehended the Dutch tourist while he was trying to flee.

"While he was trying to cross, the boat in which he was traveling had capsized and he got drowned and he had reached Tourist Reception Centre from where he has taken a taxi and was trying to flee and was apprehended from Qazigund by the police," he added.
