Frozen fountains. Freezing temperatures. A cold snap blasts New York.

NEW YORKNEW YORKUNITED STATES (JANUARY 24, 2013) (REUTERS) -  Arctic air hovered over New York City and other parts of the northeastern United States on Thursday (January 24).

The bone-chilling weather froze ponds and water fountains in the city's parks, but it didn't stop New Yorkers from enjoying the day.

"I love it. I like the weather. As long as it's not raining and hailing and huge winds, it's just perfect in New York," said Sara Stalin.

She added, "I think this is the most beautiful weather anywhere. The sun is shining. The sky is blue. It's a little chilly, but it's just perfect."

As the temperature read 15 degrees Fahrenheit (-9.4 Celsius), people bundled up in their insulated coats, hats and gloves. Some people wore more than one set of clothing.

"I wear baggy pants in the winter, so I can have pants under my pants. So I have another pair of pants under these pants. And this zips here. And hats and gloves. Always, lots and lots of gloves. But I wear probably five layers of clothes in the wintertime," said Erin Hardy.

Coat collars, scarves, hats and sunglasses were all used to cover faces and keep warm. "Incognito cold" is what some people call it.

To the fashionable, the cold weather was welcome.

"The low temperature is a welcome change because we had a very hot summer and I appreciate this nice, cool, refreshing weather. It's very cold, but I love it... I love it because I have a lot of boots and I have a lot of cold weather gear and I need to use it. It's been in my closet for two years, so I'm happy," said Linda Joseph.

The city will remain in winter's icy grip until the end of the week. That is when it is expected to snow.
