NVO - Colorado is getting ready for "Green Wednesday."

Starting on New Year's Day, anyone 21 or older can legally begin to buy recreational marijuana in the state.

Businesses like the Breckenridge Cannabis Club are busy getting ready for the switch.

"We expect a lot of tourists. They have never been able to buy legal weed. Legal weed, anytime anywhere and it'll be new every single day for these people."

Come January 1st, Colorado will become the first state to allow recreational pot stores. But the new law has its restrictions. Residents can only purchase up to an ounce and you can't light up in public.

"We definitely feel responsible educating the consumers. Don't consume on main street, that's not legal. Don't take it home with you, don't take it across state lines, don't sell it to anyone especially if they're under 21."

Businesses are expecting plenty of tourists come New Year's Day. But out-of-state residents will only be allowed to purchase a quarter of an ounce.
