BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMAUNITED STATES (AUGUST 14, 2013) (NBC) -  Transportation investigators were on the scene in Birmingham, Alabamaon Wednesday (August 14) where a large United Parcel Service cargo plane crashed and burst into flames, killing the pilot and co-pilot.

UPS flight 1354, an AIrbus A300, was en route from Louisville, Kentucky, to Birmingham when it crashed shortly before dawn.

A field of debris could be seen around the crash site in an area of Birmingham that had been a residential neighborhood. Many homes have been bulldozed to make room for an airport expansion.
