Police in Canada say an exchange student, attacked in her Toronto apartment while a friend watched on a Web camera, was found dead hours later.

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA (APRIL 19, 2011) CBC -
Canadian police on Tuesday (April 19, 2011) were investigating the death of a Chinese exchange student who was attacked while a friend in China watched on a computer webcam.

Toronto Police identified the student of York University as Qian Liu from Beijing.

They say she was talking early Friday morning (April 15) to a friend from home when a man allegedly knocked on her door asking to use her phone.

A police news release said the online witness saw Liu and the unknown man struggle for a time before the attacker turned off her laptop.

News reports say Liu's friend in China began a desperate attempt to find out what happened. Ten hours later, police arrived at the basement apartment to find Liu's body, naked from the waist down. Her laptop was missing. Police are unsure whether the 23-year-old knew the man. The cause of the death is yet to be determined, the police release said. There were no obvious signs of sexual assault or severe physical trauma, and police are awaiting toxicology reports.
