Two parcels containing explosives are intercepted en route to the U.S.
UAE UK-EXPLOSIVES PACKAGES - This intercepted parcel is said to contain explosives bearing the hallmarks of al Qaeda.

The photos were released by police in Dubai on Saturday.

The parcel originated in Yemen and was bound for a U.S. address.

It was discovered at a FedEx facility in Dubai and police said contained the same explosive material used in a failed plot to bomb a U.S. airliner in December 2009.

Meanwhile, a similar parcel also originating in Yemen was found on a UPS cargo plane in the UK, again bound for the U.S.

Britain's Interior Minister confirmed the suspect package contained explosive material.

"The suspect package originated in Yemen. It was removed for examination by forensic experts. I can say at this stage that it did contain explosive material, but it is not yet clear whether it was a viable explosive device. The forensic work continues."

Suspicion has fallen on al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which operates out of Yemen and claimed responsibility for the failed December plot.

On Friday President Obama vowed that U.S. authorities would spare no effort in hunting down the source of the packages.
