Fifty One Arrested In Spanish Raid On Suspected Human Traffickers

Spanish police say they have broken up a ring suspected of trafficking Chinese migrants into Europe and the United States.

BARCELONASPAIN (POLICE) -   Spanish and French police have broken up a ring suspected of trafficking Chinese migrants into Europe and the United States, making 75 arrests, Spanish police said on Saturday (August 10).

The smuggling operation was based in Barcelona, and charged up to 50,000 euros to transport Chinese citizens with false identification to the U.S. as well as SpainFranceGreeceItalyIreland,Turkey and the UK, according to a police statement.

Still images released by the Spanish police on Saturday showed several Asian men with hands tied behind their backs and faces pixelated, as well as confiscated items including Chinese and European currencies, immigration stamps and mobile phones.

81 false passports of Asian countries such as South KoreaTaiwanMalaysia and Japan were also recovered.

Police said 51 suspects were arrested in Spain and 24 in France, as part of a joint operation begun by Spanish authorities in June.
