Florida shooter George Zimmerman is transferred to jail

Police release the booking shot of George Zimmerman, who was charged with second degree murder for the shooting death of 17-year old Trayvon Martin.

SANFORD, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES (APRIL 11, 2012) (SEMINOLE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE) - George Zimmerman, the Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed unarmed, black teenager Trayvon Martin, has been transferred to a county jail in Sanford, Florida, a sheriff said on Wednesday (April 11).

Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said Zimmerman was moved to the jail after turning himself into Florida law enforcement authorities. Authorities also released Zimmerman's booking shot.


The 28-year old was charged earlier on Wednesday (April 11) with second-degree murder in Martin's death.


Zimmerman said he acted in self-defense during a confrontation in a gated community in the central Florida city of Sanford on February 26.
