Gunmen Kill Candidate From Pakistan's MQM

Candidate from Pakistan's Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is gunned down in Karachi.

KARACHIPAKISTAN (MAY 10, 2013) (REUTERS) -  A Pakistani election candidate from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was shot and killed in an attack in Karachi on Friday (May 10).

Shakeel Ahmed was an assembly candidate standing for the PS-89 constituency in Karachi.

Local police confirmed the death, as officers and members of his party gathered in the mortuary.

"Two dead bodies were brought here. One was the body of Mohammad Ali who lives in Landhi. The second body belongs to Shakeel Ahmed, son of Hakeem Ahmed, who was killed in this incident," said policeman Munir Ahmad Abro.

"This is a colleague of ours, and he was a candidate for PS-89. We confirm that he is Shakeel Ahmed," said senior member of the MQM Kashif Moghul.

Ahmed is the second candidate to be killed in Karachi this week in what is alreadyPakistan's most violent election.

Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud, in a message to the group's spokesman, outlined plans for attacks, including suicide blasts, in all four of the country's provinces on polling day on Saturday (May 11).
