In a televised speech Lebanon's Hassan Nasrallah says Syria will supply Hezbollah with weapons that would "break the balance (of force)".

BEIRUTLEBANON (MAY 9, 2013) (REUTERS) -  Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said Syria would respond to Israeli raids around Damascus last week by providing his group with sophisticated weapons, hinting that such arms could change the balance of power betweenIsrael and the Lebanese guerrilla group.

"If the aim of your (Israel's) attack was to prevent the strengthening of the resistance's capabilities, then Syria will give the resistance sophisticated weapons the like of which it hasn't seen before," he said in a televised speech on Thursday (May 9).

"The resistance is prepared to accept any sophisticated weaponry even if it was to break the balance (of force)."

Nasrallah also said his forces would support any Syrian effort to recapture the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, days after the Jewish state launched raids in Syriabelieved to have targeted weapons destined for the Lebanese militant group.

"We announce that we stand with the Syrian popular resistance and offer material and spiritual support as well as coordination in order to liberate the Syrian Golan," he said in a televised speech.

In the days following Israeli strikes last Friday (May 3) and Sunday (May 5), Syrian state news programs quoted unnamed sources saying that Damascus had given the green light to carry out operations against Israel from the Golan Heights after decades of calm on the border.
