The skies are clear in Hollywood, but brisk winds and chilly temperatures means dozens of security staff are tightly bundled as they watch over the final preparations for the 2011 Oscars red carpet in front of the Kodak Theatre.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 27, 2011) REUTERS - Security was tight on the streets surrounding the Kodak Theatre early Sunday (February 27) morning as final preparations were underway to accommodate the hundreds of celebrities, media and movie fans who will be descending upon this corner of Hollywood in the next several hours for the 2011 Oscars.

The threat of rain has passed but the plastic canopies remained in place due to the unpredictable weather in Los Angeles during the past week.

Brisk winds and chilly temperatures meant all who were working at this hour were tightly bundled against the cold.

Cranes moved additional concrete barricades into place and plans were underway to erect an additional chain link fencing near the entrance to the red carpet.

Visibly absent were the groups of fans that used to camp out overnight on the nearby street corners hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars ahead of the ceremony.

The Oscars security perimeter has been pushed out further in all directions in recent years, making it impossible for onlookers to get anywhere near the action.

Road closure signs are scattered across the landscape.

The streets were very quiet apart from the activity related to readying the vicinity for the big event.

Dozens of limousines will be delivering celebrity guests to the edge of the crimson rug in a matter of hours.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Kodak Theatre on Sunday (February 27, 2011) night starting at 5:30 p.m. PST(2030EST/0030GMT).

It will be broadcast in more than 200 countries.
