Five women are dead after the limousine they were in bursts into flames on a bridge near San Francisco

 SAN MATEOCALIFORNIAUNITED STATES (MAY 5, 2013) (NBC) -  Five women, believed to be in their 30s, were killed late Saturday (May 4) after the stretch limousine they were traveling in burst into flames.

California Highway Patrol officials said the fire was first reported 10 p.m. local time (0500 gmt)

The limo was heading west across the San Mateo-Hayward bridge when smoke started coming out of the vehicle.

When the driver pulled over, the limo caught on fire, trapping its occupants inside.

The driver was not injured and four others in the car escaped with injuries including burns or smoke inhalation, officials said.

Police shut down several lanes of the bridge while they investigated the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
