20 tourists arrested in the coastal Spanish town of Lloret de Mar after hundreds of revellers clash with police.
LLORET MAR, SPAIN (AUGUST 11, 2011) FORTA Spanish police arrested 20 tourists in the coastal town of Lloret de Mar on Thursday (August 11), after hundreds of holiday-makers clashed with police.
For a second night, police fired rubber bullets and set up road blocks as revellers caused havoc on the streets of the Costa Brava resort, throwing bottles and vandalising shops."I don't know from where but they had sticks, I don't know. They pulled a metal bench out and pulled the arms off. They have broken windows and tried to break into the hotel," one eyewitness told local television.
Officers said some 1800 people had been in local night club, Colossos, when the air conditioning broke down.
Managers then opened emergency doors to let clubbers out of the premises.
But violence flared when police prevented some tourists from re-entering the club.
Riot police detained 13 French tourists, three Germans, two Dutch, a Swiss citizen and one Slovene.
"I'm fed up, I want to sell my flat and move. It is a shame because I've been living in Lloret for 31 years and I like it very much but I'm going to move because it is impossible to bear this," one resident said.
On Wednesday (August 10) a 23-year-old Frenchman was arrested after 400 tourists rampaged through the streets.
