Canadian man donates entire $40 million dollar lotto winnings
CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA (DECEMBER 17, 2013) (CBC) - A Canadian man who won a $40-million (C$) lottery prize last May said Monday (December 16) that the money will go to charity.
Tom Crist was golfing in Palm Springs, California when he received the phone call from Western Canada Lottery informing him he had won the prize.Crist kept winning the prize a secret until he told his children that he plans to put the money into a family trust that will be given to charities that he and his kids pick out in memory of his wife, according to the CBC.
Crist's wife of 33 years died in February 2012 at the age of 57 due to cancer and he plans to give money to the Canadian Cancer Society and has announced a $1.2 million (C$) donation toCalgary's Tom Baker Cancer Centre (Alberta Cancer Foundation) where his wife sought treatment.
The $40 million prize is the largest for a Calgary winner
