GARANHUNS, BRAZIL (APRIL 14, 2012) (ORIGINALLY 4:3) (TV RECORD - Police in northeastern Brazil police arrested on Friday (April 13) one man and two women who they said confessed to murdering and eating their victims.
Brazilian police arrest three people who they say confessed to murdering and eating their victims as members of a cannibalism sect.
Police said they found the remains of three women in the trio's home and suspect they are linked to the murder of six other women who went missing in the state of Pernambuco.
According to police, 51-one-year-old Jorge Negromonte da Silveira, his 51-year-old wife Cristina Silveira and 25-year-old mistress Bruna da Silva said they hear "voices" telling them to kill and eat people.
One of the women said she sold pasties with human meat in the town of Garanhuns, police said.
Police Chief Weslei Fernandes said they confessed to acts of cannibalism.
"They would chop up their victims and then they would take out parts of their bodies and organs such as the liver in order to eat them afterwards," he said.
A five-year-old girl, who police said was the daughter of one of the the victims, was also found living in their home.
Police officer Nailton da Silva said the girl is receiving psychological treatment.
"(The child) has been handed over to the guardianship council and the court is already taking care of this case, although the child is emotionally unstable and seems constantly nervous," he said.
According to police, the three claimed to be members of a group named Cartel that was part of a mission to decrease the world's population.
Fernandes said they justified their crimes by saying they had to kill evil people.
"They said their victims were evil people who possessed evil souls," he said.
Police said they have been investigating the case since last month, when the suspects tried to use the credit card of one of the victims. They said they lured the women to their house through online job offers.
