The fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) opens in Yokohama.
YOKOHAMA, JAPAN (MAY 31, 2013) (REUTERS) - The fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) held its opening reception event in Yokohama on Friday (May 31).
The three day conference runs from June 1 to 3 to discuss a variety of topics regarding the continent of Africa with participants including heads of state as well as political and business leaders from Africa and other nations world-wide.Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe greeted the delegates before raising a toast of Japanese sake.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the theme of TICAD V is to work in relation with vibrantAfrica and Japan. TICAD V is going to hold more in depth discussions tomorrow and we would energetically discuss the upcoming issues."
Abe will meet over 40 leaders in less than a week in order to help Japanese companies make inroads into Africa.
