New Orleans police release security camera video footage of the Mothers Day parade shooting that injured 19 people, as they search for three suspects seen running from the scene.
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, UNITED STATES (MAY 12, 2013) (NEW ORLEANS POLICE HANDOUT) - New Orleans police searched on Monday (May 13) for the gunmen who wounded 19 people, including two children, at a Mother's Day parade, a police spokesman said.
Police released security camera video footage of the incident and asked the public on social media sites such as Facebook and YouTube for help in their search to locate three suspects that officers saw fleeing the scene.Ten men, seven women, and a girl and a boy both age 10, were hit when gunmen opened fire at the parade on Sunday (May 12). Police said a motive for the shooting was unknown and that the investigation was continuing.
Two victims underwent surgery and the children were grazed but in good condition, police said on Sunday. It was unclear if the victims were marching or watching the parade.
Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas has said a witness reported hearing two different types of gunshots, indicating two weapons were involved.
Violent crime in New Orleans ranks above the national average in FBI surveys. A poll of residents in 2010 found crime to be their greatest concern.
