Part of a central London building has collapsed onto a car, killing the driver, as more storms batter Britain.
HOLBORN, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (FEBRUARY 15, 2014) (ITN) - A woman died in the central London district of Holborn late on Friday (February 14) after part of a building collapsed on the car she was driving, British police said. The incident happened during a stormy night of strong winds.
Police cordoned off the scene, opposite the Holborn underground station, and piles of rubble lay strewn about the car that had been crushed by the falling masonry.Several people are reportedly being treated for injuries.
Gales of up to 80 miles (129 kilometres) per hour and heavy rain lashed southern England and Wales overnight, Britain's Met Office said, while severe flood warnings remained in place for much of southern and central parts of Britain.
The Met Office said Friday's weather was likely to be the last of the series of violent storms that have crossed the country in recent weeks, with the weather set to improve through the weekend.
