HONG KONG, CHINA (DECEMBER 31, 2010) REUTERS - As Hong Kong celebrated the arrival of 2011, multiple Guinness World Record Holder Wim Hof opted for a bath of ice, and managed to break his own world record by staying in it for 1 hour 50 minutes.
While Hof has previously performed the stunt in ice-cold water, this time he did it in a container filled with ice cubes.Hof entered the ice bath wearing just a pair of swimming trunks in an ordeal that he said requires both mental and physical preparation.
He hoped his performances would help raise global awareness of climate change.
"To me, global warming is a global warning for everybody. So, if I can draw attention to this issue, I will. And I do this right now, by doing a world record, Guinness World Record and break it. And just to show nature and man is very strong if it just is within nature," said Hof.
A crowd gathered to watch the spectacle while singers and dancers provided the entertainment as they waited.
The 51-year-old Dutchman broke the world record for the longest time spent in an 'ice bath' last January with a cool 1 hour 44 minutes.
Hof's nine Guinness World Records include swimming under ice for 57.5 minutes at the North Pole and running bare-foot for 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
