A Russian grannie kills a wolf that attacked her with bare hands and an axe.
KIZLYAR REGION, RUSSIA (RGVK DAGESTAN) - A Russian grannie from a village in southern Russia won an unequal battle with a wolf and killed him with her bare hands and an axe.
Aishat Maksudova, 56-year-old pensioner from Novo Biryuzyak village in the Dagestan region, was in a group of villagers herding cows and sheep. She heard a cry of a calf attacked by a wolf and rushed to shoo the wolf away. The wolf attacked Maksudova in turn but the grannie fought back.
"I was not even frightened. I stood like this, holding an axe like this. And the wolf with an open mouth suddenly jumped on me. Jumped like that. The wolf clawed into my leg, and I wanted to hit him with the axe," Maksudova said.
In a reversal of the "Little Red Riding Hood" fairytale where a granddaughter saves her grannie eaten by a wolf, in Russia the grannie took fate in her own hands.
"When I raised my arm up like this, the wolf was just holding my hand. Trying to claw my hand. I wanted to open his mouth and put my fist all the way there, all the way to his throat. But I could not open him. So I just left my hand, and the wolf was just clawing into it, pulling on it, pulling away like this. And then I took the axe and hit him on his head," Maksudova said.
Mobile phone footage shot by stunned villagers shows a dead wolf with a bloodied face, a sign of the huge impact from the grannie's blow. Local men still talk how the grannie won over an animal which a strong adult is usually afraid of. Some villagers started practising with an axe.
