Woolwich murder suspect Michael Adebowale leaves a London court under heavy police presence.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UK (MAY 30, 2013) (REUTERS) - A man charged with the murder of a British soldier on a London street left court on Thursday (May 30) in a police van.
Security was tight outside Westminster Magistrates' Court after Michael Adebowale attended a hearing over the death of serving soldier Drummer Lee Rigby.Police charged 22-year-old Adebowale late on Wednesday (May 29) evening with the murder of 25-year-old Rigby.
He was brought to Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London on Thursday morning where he was remanded in custody to appear at Britain's central criminal court, the Old Bailey, on Monday (June 3).
Adebowale was charged shortly after leaving hospital, where he had spent the last week after being shot by police.
Rigby, a veteran of the Afghan war, was killed in broad daylight by two men.
Adebowale was arrested at the scene of the attack after being shot and detained by police. He was also charged with possession of a firearm.
A second man, Michael Adebolago, remains under arrest in connect with the incident and is in a stable condition in hospital.
