LILLE, FRANCE (FEBRUARY 21, 2012) (REUTERS) - French police on Tuesday (February 21) began interrogating former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn as part of an investigation into an alleged prostitution ring centred on a luxury hotel in Lille northern France.
French police interrogate former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn as part of investigation into alleged prostitution ring in northern France.
Strauss-Kahn, who returned to France last September after a New York court dropped attempted rape charges against him, arrived shortly before 0900 local time, 0800 GMT.
He is expected to be probed over the scandal, which started with the discovery last year of a network that supplied prostitutes to clients of the luxury Carlton hotel in the northern city of Lille.
Eight people have been arrested, including several Carlton managers, businessmen and a local police commissioner, who are now under official inquiry on suspicion of organising prostitution.
The case blew into a bigger affair when French media reported Strauss-Kahn's name had surfaced in text messages uncovered during the investigation.
Strauss-Kahn last year asked to speak to investigators in the case over the allegations in order to end the "dangerous and malicious insinuations."
