Six people are killed and six others injured when a commuter aircraft flying from Belfast City Airport crashes in fog at Cork Airport
CORK, IRELAND (FEBRUARY 11, 2011) RTE - A small plane with 10 passengers and two crew on board crashed in heavy fog on Thursday (February 11) on the runway at Cork Airport in southern Ireland, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) said.
Local media, citing the local county council, said six people had been killed in the crash.
No one from Cork County Council was immediately available to confirm the reports.
The IAA said the metroliner SW4, which was en route from Belfast in Northern Ireland, had crashed after making several attempts at landing.
Flights were being diverted from Cork airport. Rescue crews were trying to put out a fire on the runway and debris was said to have been scattered over a wide area.
