There have been reports of nine aftershocks since the main quake which occurred just after 10 pm local time and was felt in the south-eastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.Kerman province is highly prone to earthquakes. In 2003, 31,000 people were killed when a quake struck the city of Bam.
