Guinness Book of World Records certifies Besse Cooper, a 114-year-old woman from Georgia, as the world's oldest person.
MONROE, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES (MARCH 10, 2011) NBC - One-hundred-fourteen-year-old Besse Cooper is now the world's oldest person according to Guinness World Records. NBC reported that the organization made the certification on Thursday (March 10) in a small ceremony. At her side was her 75-year-old son, Sid Cooper.
Cooper was born in Tennessee on August 26th, 1896 during the second term of President Grover Cleveland. Cooper became the world's oldest person after Eunice G. Sanborn of Texas passed away.
