Netanyahu tells U.N Secretary General he would be a "willing partner" to a long term solution to Gazaconflict through diplomatic means, but that Israel will act to protect its citizens.
JERUSALEM (NOVEMBER 20, 2012) (ORIGINALLY 4:3) (POOL) - Israel wants to find a long-term, diplomatic solution to resolve the Gaza crisis, but will not hesitate to escalate its military campaign against Palestinian militants if needed, Israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday (November 20).
"Mr. Secretary, no country would tolerate rocket attacks against its cities and against its civilians. Israelcannot tolerate such attacks. If a long term solution can be put in place through diplomatic means, thenIsrael would be a willing partner to such a solution. But if stronger military action proves necessary to stop the constant barrage of rockets, Israel will not hesitate to do what is necessary to defend our people,"Netanyahu said after talks with the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Ban Ki-Moon called for a halt to fire from both sides.
"A further escalation would be dangerous and tragic for Palestinians and Israelis and would put the entire region at risk. I'm here to appeal to all to halt fire and reach to a calm."
Nevertheless, Palestinian rocket fire and Israeli air strikes continued for a seventh day.
