U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel hosts leaders from Malawi, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde for joint meetings at the Pentagon.
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA UNITED STATES (MARCH 28, 2013) (REUTERS) - Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel welcomed the presidents of Sierra Leone, Malawi, and the prime minister of Cape Verde to the Pentagon on Thursday (March 28). The leaders, arriving one by one, were greeted by Hagel before entering the Pentagon for meetings.
Hagel was expected to thank the leaders for their partnership in addressing regional security issues. The group is meeting at the Pentagon to discuss shared concerns in countering terrorism, combating transnational threats, and enhancing maritime security.The African leaders will meet with President Obama and other U.S. officials later on Thursday and are expected to participate in additional events in Washington focusing on economic development, trade, and consolidating democratic gains in Africa.
