Police confirm human remains have been found on a beach where a presumed serial killer left the bodies of five women late last year.
YAPHANK NEW YORK UNTIED STATES (APRIL 4, 2011) NBC - Searchers have found three more bodies along a remote Long Island Beach area that could be linked to a suspected serial killer. A total of eight human remains have now been located near the Ocean Parkway along the Long Island coast 45 miles (72.4 km) east of New York City. On Monday (April 4) authorities searched the dense undergrowth with helicopters and canine units. Ladder trucks from the fire department were also brought in to give searchers a vantage point over the dense terrain.
A fifth body was discovered near Gilgo Beach last week following the discovery last December of the remains of four prostitutes. Previously identified victims were prostitutes who were soliciting clients on the Cragilist website.Police Commissioner Richard Dormer of Suffolk County New York told reporters on Monday "As you know we commenced the search this morning, a very methodical, careful search and I'd like to report at this time we found human remains, three human remains so far in the area between Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach.
Law enforcement officials said the medical examiner is analyzing the remains. It is not know if they are male or female.
