The White House releases a photo of President Barack Obama firing a gun to prove his claim that he frequently goes target shooting.
CAMP DAVID, MARYLAND, UNITED STATES (WHITE HOUSE) - The White House released a photo of President Barack Obama firing a gun on Saturday (February 2), to back up Obama's recent assertion that he goes skeet shooting "all the time." Skeet shooting is a sport which involves firing a shotgun at flying clay targets.
Obama made the claim during an interview with the New Republic magazine in an attempt to show sympathy for hunters, even as he pushes for tighter gun control laws in the wake of the Newtown school shooting massacre last December. It is unclear, however, whether a single photo will satisfy skeptics about his claim that he and his guests frequently shoot clay pigeons at Camp David.
Conservative critics immediately questioned the Democratic president's assertion, and talk show comedians had a field day with the idea that he had taken up shooting as a hobby.
Obama's comments were widely seen as an attempt to reach out to gun owners to ease their concerns about his legislative proposals, the biggest gun control push in decades.
