Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the main political rival of cricketer turned politician Imran Khan, cancels all electoral campaigning on Wednesday after Khan is injured in fall from stage.
RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN ( MAY 07, 2013) (GEO NEWS) - Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, seen as the front runner in the country's upcoming election, on Tuesday (May 7) cancelled all political activities on Wednesday (May 08) after his main rival in the election was badly injured in a fall during a rally.
Khan fell almost 25 feet as the lifter in which he was being raised to the stage during a rally in Lahore tipped over.He was rushed to a nearby hospital with head and back injuries.
Sharif, who Khan has been taunting in every electoral speech during the campaign, began his speech at a rally in Rawalpindi with prayers for Khan's recovery. Then he announced that in order to show his solidarity with his rival, he was cancelling all his political activities the next day.
A party leader of Khan's party told reporters the politician who has been galvanizing hundreds of thousands of youngsters during his election campaigning had suffered "minor fracture" but was in a stable condition and out of danger.
