Donning Guy Fawkes' masks, a bunch of about a dozen odd activists under the banner of 'Anonymous' a hacker group, shouted slogans against the alleged censorship of websites by the Indian government."Whole India is not against censorship and in 19 cities we are doing the same thing, so we are trying to tell the government that we want free Internet, we don't want any interruptions in the Internet," said an internet activist wearing a mask.
Activists associated with a hacking group protest against Internet censorship in New Delhi while demanding formation of a body to oversee content on objectionable websites.
NEW DELHI, INDIA (JUNE 09, 2012) (ANI) - Hackers demanding complete web freedom gathered in India's national capital to protest against Internet censorship by the federal government on Saturday (June 09).
The activists demanded formation of a body to oversee content on objectionable websites.
"There will be a law and if law says that this thing is objectionable, there will be a judicial body, there will be a body which will decide okay this is content is objectionable and this content is okay. But till now we don't have any body, which decides which content is okay and which content is objectionable. So who will decide what is objectionable?" added the masked activist
According to media reports youngsters associated with 'Anonymous' have staged protests in other Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Pune.
'Anonymous' has ushered the 'Save Your Voice' campaign as a mark of protest in the past against unfair blocking and sharing of files by Internet Service Providers (ISP).
The blocking has many times resulted in hacking of websites by 'Anonymous' activists as a mark of protest.
