A mess in the Pacific Northwest: Drivers in snow-slammed Oregon face a slick commute while plummeting temperatues in Washington freeze a fountain in Seattle.
PORTLAND, OREGON, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 6, 2014) (NBC) - Drivers in Oregon faced a tough commute on Thursday evening (February 6) after a rare snowstorm battered the U.S. Northwest covering western Oregon and parts of Washington state. Slick and snowy conditions forced vehicles to stall on the roads in Portland, Oregon's largest city. Various accidents on the road closed off the busy Interstate 5 and delayed traffic in the Willamette Valley in northwestern Oregon. No injuries were reported.
Friday's forecast calls for an additional 2-4 (5-10cm) inches of snow across thePortland area.In Seattle, a fountain morphed into an ice sculpture after plunging temperatures caused the water to freeze. The region narrowly missed the snowstorm that battered Portland but the cold temperatures shattered records, local media reported.
Forecasters expect some snow showers for the Seattle area on Friday night.
