A woman was shot and seriously injured during a protest outside a local branch of the National Security Service in Western Ukrainian city of Khmelnitsky.
KHMELNITSKY, UKRAINE (FEBRUARY 19, 2014) (TV7 PLUS) - A woman was shot and apparently seriously wounded during a protest on Wednesday (February 19) in the city of Khmelnitsky in Western Ukraine.
A local TV channel, TV7 Plus, showed video of a small crowd of protesters gathered outside the local office of the National Security Service. When some protesters started to smash glass doors of the building there was a sound of automatic gunfire.The crowd screamed as one woman remained prone on the pavement with what appears to be gunshot wounds to the head. The woman was later taken by an ambulance to the hospital and her condition was not immediately known.
Another protester showed what looked like a gunshot wound in his upper body with blood flowing out of the wound.
Violence spread from the capital Kiev to several Western Ukrainian cities, most notably Lviv and Ternopil.
In Kiev 26 people were killed in fighting, of whom 10 were police officers, the Health Ministry said. A ministry official said 263 protesters were being treated for injuries and 342 police officers, mainly with gunshot wounds.
Demonstrations erupted in November after Yanukovich bowed to Russian pressure and pulled out of a planned far-reaching association agreement with Brussels.
