The UN says that the number of Syrian refugees has reached 1.5 million and is set to swell to 3 million by the end of the year.
MAFRAQ, JORDAN (SATURDAY 18 MAY, 2013) (REUTERS) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that the number of registered Syrian refugees had reached 1.5 million on Sunday (May 19) and is set to doubled to three million by the end of the year.
Jordan maintains an open border policy with Syria, and has taken in over 530,000 refugees since the start of the conflict almost two years ago. Most of these refugees reside in the Zaatari refugee camp.
