China on Wednesday opened the world’s longest high-speed rail line which runs fromBeijing to Guangzhou, a 2,398km trip. The new line can travel at an average speed of 300kmh and has a maximum speed of 350kmh, says China’s state media. This will reduce the travel time from 20 hours to about eight hours. The line has 35 stops that include Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, and Changsha, said state-run Xinhua. State-run China Daily said that railway officials had put several safety measures in place, including increased maintenance and improved systems to deal with issues concerning running in extreme weather.
