Zambia-Devil's Swimming Pool -- Swimming pool on top of waterfall stuns tourists inZambia
China Central Television (CCTV) - The "Devil's Swimming Pool", on top of Victoria Waterfall on Zambia's border, stuns tourists from around the world during the recent dry season.
Located on top of a 108-meter-high, 1.7-kilometer-wide waterfall, the "world's most frightening swimming pool", as local tour guides call it, takes shape in the dry season between September and October. This is when the torrents subside and are cut off by the now heightened rocks on top of theVictoria Waterfall on Livingston Island, a boundary island of Zambia. The waterfall is jointly owned by Zambia and neighboring Zimbabwe.Led by local guides, who are familiar with the geographical circumstances around the waterfall, tourists can safely swim in the pool created by a fence of rocks. They can even lie on the edge of the cliff, half their bodies suspended in air, to look down and appreciate the marvelous falls, which drop 1,088 cubic meters of water per second.
"This is so fantastic. It's so frighteningly terrifying. You're looking over the edge into the abyss, water splashing all around you. It is a fantastic experience. It's terrifying. All your body has a little nervous quiver, and little fish biting at your ankle make you worried, but it's fantastic with a great guide like Collins," said Seamus McLanghlin, a British visitor.
