White House releases video that shows chefs creating a 300-pound gingerbread replica of the White House.
WASHINGTON, D.C. UNITED STATES (DECEMBER 9, 2013) (WHITEHOUSE.GOV) - The White House on Monday (December 9) released a video that takes viewers behind the scenes of the construction of the 2013 Gingerbread White House, which is currently on display in the State Dining Room. Set to sprightly holiday music, the time-lapse video condenses several weeks of work by White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and his team on the highly detailed replica into less than two minutes.
This year's creation tops in at 300 pounds, with 1200 Springerle cookies making up the gingerbread fireplace on which the edible house rests. As in previous years, a dark chocolate version of the Obama's Portuguese water dog Bo sits outside theWhite House. The first family's new dog Sunny makes her debut this year, sitting with Bo on the front steps of the illuminated house with a functioning North Lawn water fountain.
