Olivier Metzner, one of France's top criminal lawyers is found floating dead in the sea off his island in Brittany's Morbilhan.
PARIS, FRANCE (REUTERS) - One of France's best-known criminal lawyers, Olivier Metzner, has been found dead in the sea off his privately-owned island of Boedic, in the Morbihan Golf, off the French coast of Brittany.
French police are treating the death as a suicide and have begun an investigation after a note was found at his home.Metzner had high-profile clients including rogue trader Jerome Kerviel, former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin in the Clearstream case and former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega.
Always with his trademark large cigar, the 63-year old Metzner was known for his in-depth understanding of very complicated cases.
Born of farming parents in Normandy Metzner bought Boedic island in 2010.
