Coastguard officials are continuing to rescue waves of migrants arriving off Sicily's shores.
POZZALLO, SICILY, ITALY (OCTOBER 4, 2013) (COASTGUARD HANDOUT) - : Italian coastguard officers on Friday (October 4) continued to rescue migrants arriving off the Sicilian coast.
At least 60 migrants were rescued from a vessel some 25 metres long, 140 miles south of Sicily's southern Capo Passero.
The migrants, which were believed to be Syrian and included eleven women and around thirteen children, were eventually transferred to a coastguard boat and escorted to shore.
Choppy seas prevented divers on Friday from recovering more bodies of migrants who died in a shipwreck off the island of Lampedusa, Sicily, that has killed an estimated 300, in one of the worst disasters of Europe's immigration crisis.
