Family members of Nelson Mandela arrive early at Pretoria Heart Hospital to visit the anti-apartheid icon who is being treated for a lung infection.
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA (JULY 09, 2013) (REUTERS) - It has been relatively quiet outside the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoriaon Tuesday (July 09) where former South African President Nelson Mandela is being treated for a recurring lung infection.
Various family members were seen arriving at the hospital to visit the ailing 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon.Madiba's ex wife, Winnie Madikizela Mandela, his eldest daughter Makaziwe and two grandchildren Mbuso and Zenani were seen at the hospital.
Ndaba and Ndileka Mandela also visited their grandfather. Madiba is is entering his fifth week at the hospital.
The presidency has not issued an update on Mandela's health since Thursday, but it's understood he remains in a critical but stable condition.
His health has become a concern to South Africa's 53 million people, for whom Mandela remains a potent symbol of the struggle against decades of white-minority rule.
The failing health of 94-year-old Mandela, a figure admired globally as a symbol of struggle against injustice and racism, has reinforced people's realisation that the father of the post-apartheid South Africa will not be around forever.
