At least one person is killed as a 6.0 magnitude earthquake shakes Aceh province inIndonesia.
PIDIE DISTRICT, ACEH PROVINCE, INDONESIA (JANUARY 22, 2013) (KOMPAS TV) - An earthquake registering 6.0 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted the west ofIndonesia's Aceh on Tuesday (January 22), triggered panic and killing one in Pidiedistrict, the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) reported.
Officials quoted by local media said the 'quake victim was an eight-year-old girl and that seven others were injured.Local TV station Kompas TV broadcast pictures of the dead girl's house and family.
The BNPB said the quake struck 16 kilometres (10 miles) southwest capital of BandaAceh at depth of 84 kilometres (52.5 miles), while USGS data said that the quake hit 112 kilometres (70 miles) southeast capital of Banda Aceh at depth of 37 kilometres (23.1 miles).
Fifteen people were injured, five of them seriously and 71 houses were damaged.
No tsunami alert was raised by National Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency (BMKG).
