China-Expo/Solar Parking -- Largest solar powered parking lot brightens World Landscape Art Expo in Liaoning
China Central Television (CCTV) - The nation's largest solar powered parking lot has brightened the 13th World Landscape Art Exposition which kicked off in Jinzhou in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Friday.
The 40,000-square-meter parking lot, covered with thousands of solar panels, offers charging for more than 200 sightseeing and engineering vehicles all electrically-powered."With an annual generation capacity of three million KWHs, it should save an electricity fee of three to four million yuan," said Guo Teng, head of the expo's infrastructure department, adding that it can also reduce 3,000 tons of greenhouse gas emission each year.
The parking lot, having connected to the city's main power grid, can also provide extra power to the city as the garden closes during winter, according to Guo.
The garden, which was built by the Bohai sea, enjoys an advantageous geographical condition for exploring new energy resources. Some small-sized tidal and wind-power generation facilities have also been installed in the garden.
Currently, 10 percent of the garden's electricity comes from solar power supply, and the portion is expected to go up to 30 percent in the future.
