China-Tiger Cubs -- Mother dog breastfeeding tiger cubs in zoo
CCTV BEIJING - A resident mother dog has recently begun to breastfeed four new-born tiger cubs at a zoo in Rongcheng, east China's Shandong Province, the local media has reported.
The four cubs were said to have been deserted by their mother upon birth. And the mother dog, who herself just gave birth to two puppies, took upon the responsibility to feed the cubs.
"It's a first that a female dog is breastfeeding tiger cubs and also treating them as her own, licking them and comforting them," said Zookeeper Zhou Xiaoguang.
Workers at the zoo said the cub-quartette often fight with one another for milk, and that in 20 days' time, they are able to feed with meat which highlights just how fast the large-cat species grow over time.
