Mother charged in the killings of her two toddlers was believed to be performing an exorcism, police said.
GERMANTOWN, MARYLAND, UNITED STATES (JANUARY 17, 2014) (NBC) - A 28-year old mother in Germantown, Maryland, has been charged with the deaths of her two children and injuring her two other children, Montgomery County policesaid on Saturday (January 18).
Police said the mother and another woman, who was at the scene, believed they were performing an exorcism.The two women were charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
The toddlers, a boy and girl, aged one and 2 years old, were found with multiple stab wounds in an upstairs bedroom, police said. The two older siblings, a 5 and an 8-year old, were hospitalized with serious injuries,
Police were called to the scene on Friday (January 19) and discovered the victims.
A neighbor called 911 on Friday saying he saw a blue car with its door open and the knife on the sidewalk outside the house. Police who responded to the scene saw a blue car with its door open. The keys were in the ignition and there was blood in the car.
Police also found a knife on the sidewalk outside. Police believe the red-handled knife may be one of the weapons used in the attack.
Officers had to force their way into the home and found the victims inside in a "very bloody" crime scene. The children were found in the bedrooms and may have been asleep at the time of the attack.
The injured children are being treated in Children's Hospital in northwest Washington.
