Knowledge, not army might, determines a nation's strength, says Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Mumbai city, capital of western Maharashtra state.
MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (JANUARY 06, 2011) ANI - Knowledge, not army might, determined a nation's strength, said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Mumbai city, capital of western Maharashtra state, on Thursday (January 06).
After presenting the Infosys Prize 2010 for outstanding achievements in scientific research, he said that the strength of a nation came from knowledge.
"The strength of a nation is no longer determined merely by the might of its armed forces. It comes from the quality of its collective knowledge, the productivity of its working people, the creativity of its entrepreneurs and dedication of its professional work force," said Singh.
The awards were given in five disciplines - Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science, Life Sciences and Social Sciences.
The prize consists of a 24-karat gold medallion, a citation expounding the laureate's work and Rs. 50 lakh (500, 000).
